predator 4375 keeps tripping

Hi. Having a power outage right now and I pulled out my Predator 4375. I had not started it in 3 years. But it started up right away! Good start.

now, every thing runs fine on it. Microwave. Freezer in basement, coffee maker.

the only problem is when I plug in our fridge, the GFCI breaks within 20 seconds.

what I have tried:

plug into the other outlet
Upgrade cable to 14 gauge
Ground generator to water line. Double checked ground with multimeter.

the fridge is new. Less than 2 months. It’s a Fridgidaire gallery French door. Kind of high tech fridge.

does anyone know what I can do? Thanks!

Thanks for that suggestion!

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do you remove the bond?

I will try this when I get home from work. (the power came back on about half an hour ago, right before I left for work, thank God)

Thanks,

Just for more reference. I ran the generator without ground first and the fridge tripped it withing 20 seconds each time. I later grounded it, thinking this would solve the problem, but the problem persisted after grounding. So with or without ground it trips.

Sorry about the lack of clarity

I use extension cords. There is no way to connect to my main pannel in my house.

At my last house this worked well for my needs. Only real difference now is the fridge is a new one.

I never payed too much attention to the gague of the extension cord, but when I noticed the tripping, I went and found my thickest that I had around and that was what I meand by "upgrade to 14 gague".

I did try running only the fridge as the single appliance on the outlet (with the freezer on the other outlet). I also tried swapping them as I mentioned. GFCI would trip right away regardless.

I have a hard time believing that the fridge would pull more than 15 amps alone and overload the circuit.

Thanks again,

Does your new fridge normally plug into a GFI protected outlet when using utility power? Maybe new fridge has enough electrical leakage to cause issue with GFI but not so bad to actually be noticeable on utility power?
That is a great point. To my knowledge the fridge runs on a regular outlet in my house. But I am not totally clear about the wiring in this new house since nothing was marked.

Correct me if I'm wrong, my understanding is only the 5-20 outlets are GFCI protected and not the L14-30, yes? If thats the case, would running an L14-30 adapter Y cord or an L14-30 to multi 15/20 adapter cord be the answer to completely skirt the GFCI fridge issue Dav is dealing with?

The 4375 unit is L14-30 equipped as shown...
Great suggestion! Thanks!

Just a question about these adapters. Do they convert the voltage from 240 to 120? I don't think the generator has a switch. How do I know I don't feed my appliances with 240v?

Thanks,
