I am in the market for a smallish 240/120V inverter generator in the 5000W running watts class. My older open frame doesn't have the stability needed for my modern appliances, HVAC, etc. to work but has PLENTY of power. It is almost like I need to stabilize it by plugging in a couple space heaters directly to it before I can turn on my AC inside, then turn off the heaters. Once the AC compressor kicks off, I have problems again. Anything with electronic controls complains or simply will not function unless I have about 3000W of load on it at the time I kick it on. This is a Briggs and Stratton Elite 10000/13000 watt unit. It is also quite LOUD. I used it for years and never had a problem until everything decided to contain an electronic board.
I fried several light ballasts in my place the last time I used it without a load on it and want to make sure I don't fry boards in appliances, etc. since everything seems to have sensitive electronics in it these days.
So I looking for some advice on inverter generators and have some models picked out that I like with the AI Power SUA7600iED being my favorite based on only my research
I have 4x generators I am thinking I like best. These are all dual fuel from the factory so no modifications are required. Aftermarket kits also cost about $200 or more so I factor that into the price since you wont have to buy them and risk messing with the warranty. All of these are inverter, "super quiet", 240V, and dual fuel. I think I like the AI Power one the best. Anyone have any opinions on these things?
One is the AIVolt vs8000411 for about $1367 on Amazon with coupons. This has 8000 watts max for starting. This brand is what I call a "Happy China" brand but aren't all of these? It gets good ratings though. One thing that concerns me is they indicates it needs maintenance in 100 hours and that appears to be in reference to the generator unit itself. If I am misinterpreting this and it is simply needing an oil change every 100 hours, I am more than fine with that as I usually change oil every 25 hours or more often, especially when the engine is new. It says it can switch between fuel types but don't see which one takes priority. The literature appears to be Chinese translated "Chinglish" so am not sure about exactly what it is saying.
Another one is the Pulsar PGDA70BiSCO which is a 7250 max wattage unit. This looks like a good option as well and is about $1230. This is also the lightest and smallest unit which is nice. Pulsar seems to be a reputable brand as well.
I like the AI Power SUA7600iED the best from what I have road. It is a tad quieter and switches between fuel sources automatically with a priority on propane. I have seen this brand before like Pulsar and would probably put this as my top contender based on specs and features.
The last one is a GENMAX GM6000iED which I like. Pulsar is common and good and I have seen the AI Power ones before as well. I know these aren't Honda or Generac but they also don't have that price tag.
My last possibility is the Champion 100519 open frame inverter 5000/6250. I know it isn't a super quiet but is half the price of these others. How loud is one of these compared to my big open frame unit? I would also have to add dual fuel kits so that would eat into some of the savings.
Any other options or any of these anyone likes?
