Inside the can.

2 inch conduit and bulkhead flare fitting for NG.

Battery maintainer.

Battery mount.
Had the battery can from a previous project. The factory battery was a bit smaller, so I put some of that forever plastic at both ends to keep the terminals away from the battery can. And I think one behind it.
I had to make an extension for the battery cable to the gen.

Edge protection on anything that has an electrical cord laying on it. I may end up suspending the cables so they won't lay on anything.

Also put abrasion sleeve on the twist lock power out cord.

Top of the inverter. Nothing but dust. This is something I've been checking after every thunderstorm.

This is my lifting device. It was made for getting big heavy drives out of control cabinets in the machine shop.
The drive would slide out on its drawer type slide and then we used this to pick it up with the overhead and set it on a cart. When the machines with the big heavy drives went away so did the lifting device. These days one guy can put a 50HP drive in by himself.
The 2 piece pipe clamps I got at the home center. Had the lifting eyes. I can just spin the pipe clamps around to the top and then hoist the gen up. With the gas tank still in place I would have had to take all the lifting stuff off so it wouldn't lay on top of the gas tank. The reflective tape just tells me where my balance point is, if anything gets moved.

The rust puddles you might be seeing are from drill chips and rain back early on, before I had the top on.
Once I get done making a mess I'll put some paint over it.
Need to cover the welding smoke trails as well.

A better view of the hinges.
Used flat heads and counter sunk the hole a little for clearance when closed.
Sat the lid in place and welded through one of the existing bolt holes from the top.
The hinges were positioned so they would center up from the top, on one of those holes.

You may have noticed by now. The cradle on the inside of the can is mounted with rubber mounts.

There's enough room here for an old ammo can, that has all the pieces that I have taken off.
The end panel to get to the battery. the bracket that holds the battery. The handle and its brackets. The NG and LPG hoses that came with the genny. Oil change stuff. Spare flex exhaust. Spare fittings for all the fuel stuff. ETC.

I want to paint the ammo can and put some rubber buggy bumpers on it so it won't rattle or rub.

Here's the inside.

Spare exhaust parts that are stored in the ammo box.
I bought some material and made a bunch of gaskets myself.

Spare fuel fittings. I dug through my coffee can of fittings and got anything of the flare persuasion that might be handy in a bind. And some other stuff.

I ordered those 2 flare/flare fittings because I didn't have those. They are 1/2 inch female flare by 3/8 inch male flare.
If I want to run Propane, my intention is to break the NG line loose, at the bulkhead fitting on the outside and put one of these adapter fittings on it, and then connect the propane hose that came with the gen.

The flex line below is the one I'll take off and where I'll put the adapter fittings.

The paint I used. I really liked this stuff. I just painted over the rust that was on the can. Well, after I wire brushed the lichen and moss off. Most every thing got at least 2 coats with the brush. Spray for touch up.

As far as the E-STOP that I mentioned in my want list, I've got a 4x4 Hoffman box that will fit in the corner of my hoist contraption.
I will run rain-tite over to the bird house where the 2 inch goes to the can, then into the gen.

If there was to be a problem inside the can, I would have to access the hoist anyway, to get the can open. Once I have the cover off, I can hit the E-STOP, then open the can.

That farm implement paint is amazing. I used the matte black on a faded black HDPE bed cover three years ago and it’s still beautiful.
Rustoleum is the last of the true oil base paints. Good stuff.

This is, or will be #8 on my want list in post #123, that being a rain shield for the upper vents.
We had another midnight blowing thunder storm 2 nights ago, and as I have been doing, I went out and checked inside the can for water in the bottom and drops on top of the inverter unit itself.

Nothing.

I still think it could happen, so I'm going ahead with the rain shield idea.

This is a push blade for a lawn tractor that I've had laying around for many years.
I've tried selling it twice, so I'm going to just use it. And hey, it already has a nice curve in it to match the can.

I can't hold it up by myself to get a picture of what my intentions are, but if I can get it clamped on somehow maybe I can get a pic. It will go in front of the upper vent screen.

I'll cut those ribs off. Maybe try some rust capture paint on it.

Got the anti-short bushings for the open end of the 2 inch conduit.

I hadn't mentioned this before, but when I'm cranking the lid open, I stop about the position in this pic.
At that point it is easy enough to lean it the rest of the way back to where it rests on the legs.

Then when I'm done, I lean it forward manually to where it is leaning against the cable again.
Kinda before and after the balance point.

Got some work done on the rain shield for the ventilation air exit, made out of the push blade for a garden tractor.

Did a little body work where I cut off the brackets.

I put a second coat of filler on after this pic. It looks much better.
Should be able to see it in the next few pics.

Found some long stove bolts and some rubber caps that fit the head nice, so I didn't have to drill any more holes in the can. Cut the bolts to length that I needed.

Pretty much the same bend as the can radius.
I'll spray it white now that its mounted. Front side anyway.

When I looked at that last pic, I forgot to previously mention the little weather covers that I made for the original placards. Just trying to preserve the history of the can.
