Hello Everyone!

Could Progressive Industries EMS-LCHW30 be used with my inverter generator (Westinghouse iGen4500DF/floating neutral) house installation? Or will it always show open ground because it's before the transfer switch? I have a manual transfer switch (Siemens Non-Switching Neutral) at my main panel. I would prefer a hardwired connection over something like the EMS-PT30X. I would like to add some protection to my house electronics including fridge and furnace. Open to suggestions how to do this.

Thank you

What brand and model of panel do you have?
Hi GenKnot thanks for the reply!

It's a Siemens EQG20100NSND. On my main panel I have a Schneider HEPD80C whole house surge protector. Can I just use that in my transfer switch and just not hook-up the one wire due to my generator being 120v? However I was hoping to install something "better" since my furnace and fridge are expensive.

Thanks! :)

Ah, I see where you are going with this now. It depends on the model you pick.

For example, the model that preceded the current Square D HEPD80 surge protector used 2 LEDs and worked fine with one leg capped off. The current model only has one LED and will not light up if one leg is capped off.

Legrand makes a PB120T Series 160kA SPD that will work with one leg.

I would suggest that you verify with the manufacturer of the model you choose (if it is not already in their documentation) when using it with one leg capped.

I also found this morning another SPD that works with 120V only. It is the Square D SDSA1175. It is only 36kA, but it is available on eBay (new) for $40. I wonder if both black leads were tied together if it would be 36kA x 2 = 72kA...(maybe call them)? They also sell a SDSA1175T model, but I don't see the difference in the two units.

Thank you, gentlemen, I appreciate the comments. It looked better full before I had to pull circuits for the transfer switch. It was too much to move stuff around but I got my hands on a new panel cover, lol. Poor planning, I guess I originally didn’t think about getting a generator.

GenKnot the Legrand PB120T appears to be discontinued. I did find Mersen STXR120P05N it will do 120v I’m not familiar with his company but I’m sure its fine. I was hoping to find something like the Progressive Industries EMS-LCHW30 that was a little fancier or even had some filter properties. I also found EATON #AGCN12030 it appears to be 120v and a AEGIS Filter. I'm not an electrician I did my house electrical and had it inspected without any issues but when it comes to understanding what to use for my setup, I'm struggling with it.

Sorry about the Legrand...I didn't search for a supplier.

I see the Mersen available for $211 here. There are other places too like here. I don't know anything about Mersen either.
