I have just noticed this but Im not sure why its so rusty as the actual exhaust isn't very rusty at all. Im thinkinng the rusty pipe will break before long?

Well I've just charged the battery up again as Im guessing that will have taken a bit of power out of the battery, the volts now read 13.61-62, before it was 13.64, so Im guessing the battery might be going bad even though its not 6months old

So yeah I will try charging the battery manually ever 3-6 months as every month would be a bit of a pain.... Im amazed how long my last battery lasted concidering it only had 20 -30mins charge per month and a few hrs charge if it was lucky and I had a actual powercut.
What I meant earlier is, now that the battery has been charged up the voltage will read high, so leave it dormant for a day or two. Check the voltage after sitting for a couple of days and if 12.6v or less….it’s on its way out.

Yes I was thinking about it but I never did as the original battery that came with the generator was brilliant

MAINTAINING is much better than periodic charging. A quality battery maintainer will actually recover a battery, especially in the early stages of battery dementia...

I don’t know about the AGM and gel lead batteries, but I think what happens when the wet lead plate 12 volt batteries spend too much time below about 80% charged the plates in the battery begin to become sulfated, which reduces the battery’s efficiency. My chargers have a mode to help restore a sulfated battery, but preventing it in the first place is the best option.

I will probably get one at some point and then I can forget about the battery and the batteries should last much longer before needs replacing.... Is the main unit water proof, basically can I hook it on the wall next to the generator exposing it to all weathers?
Is the main unit water proof
It claims to be, but I would still protect it as much as possible from rain and sun exposure. In fact, I would not use it outside in the rain unless I just had to do so. High voltage and water are a bad combination.

If you can, bring the battery inside the house between usage and leave the maintainer on it 24/7.

Yes, as @GenKnot mentioned above... I have 3 of them mounted outside near the ZeroTurn parking, and at the generators.

Well after putting some oil on those rusty nuts today I decided to re connect the battery to the generator since I was out of my chair and on the floor anyway.. But before I connected the battery I checked the voltage and yes I know its only like 15hrs after charging and I might check it again in a few days.. The voltage was 13.23 and thats not bad as this chart says its still fully charged..

The whole point of getting a maintainer for me would be so I can connect it and forget about it without having to disconnect and reconnecting the battery for charging, as it takes me twice as long to do stuff then a able person.. So if this battery is gonna be causing me trouble, I'll prob end up and buy a maintainer.... I just cant believe that my old battery was so dam good and reliable because in theroy this battery I have now should be better because I bought it. The last battery came with the generator.:unsure:

I have an American made Craftsman battery charger that I’ll never part with, but a couple years ago decided it was time to invest in a couple of the modern Noco Genius models. It has settings for all battery types and charges based on the ambient temperature. There’s much to know about batteries, but a good charger removes much of the doubt. Here’s a link with some info about a few types of lead acid batteries. The battery in my Honda gen is an AGM.

Gotcha. Maybe you could 3D print a custom cover for it to keep the rain off. Sounds like a good project to me! ;)
You can still keep the maintainer indoors or otherwise protected from the weather and just use a pair of jumper cables of suitable length to extend the charging leads to the battery.

Better than getting 120V out to where the generator is stowed, outdoors.
.. The voltage was 13.23 ..
Speedy, We need to see what it reads after a day or two, although I’m surprised that the voltage was that high at 15 hours.

Its worse than that. UK is 230V!

I have been shocked by both 120V & 240V. The 240V shock was MUCH more intense!

Yeah I was thinking I could make the battery leads longer so the main unit will reach into the porchway next to the power socket. But will need the battery leads about 3-4meters long.

The power here is 230/40 volts

I will leave it till tomorrow and read the voltage again,, then thats 2 and a bit days the battery has been resting for.
Just checked the voltage again and its still reading 13.20v, so there's not much wrong with the battery is there? Plus it has been connected to the generator so its been outside for 2 coldish nights, but hasnt been used since I charged it a few days ago

I'd be happy with that. Keep an eye on it as you're doing, eventually it'll start to discharge and need topping up.
Personally I'd prefer a heavier gauge wire for my own use, I dont know the charging unit but yeah, those should work fine for you.
I have a maintainer attached to my generator battery. The battery connection is:

Can quickly plug and unplug. Loose end is zip-tied to the frame.

12 foot extension cord (3.6 meters, 25 ft also available):

Just been reading stuff about the optimate, and this is the lead I need, not the actual battery leads.. So all together its going cost me about £70, thats the "optimate 1 duo" and the "extension lead"... But Im temped to just buy some thick 4meter 2core cable and join it instead because that will work just the same if the joins are done so they are waterproof, as it will save me quite a lot of money that way?

My connections are the small spade connectors, so Im thinking I can make the croc clips work that come with the optimate.
