I have a circa 1997 Coleman Powermate 3KW generator (model PM0523001) with a problem.

During recent blackout it was running fine and then the idle speed suddenly cut way down before stalling.

I had problems restarting until I turned the idle screw down to the maximum setting. Now it starts, but the idle drops significantly when under load. I think there may be a problem with the governor.

In the first picture below there looks like there should be a connection of some type, maybe a wire or a metal rod, between the points connected with the red line. There's nothing there now.

Does anyone know if this is the case and/or have a picture or a part name/number for what should be there?

Thank you.

Which engine model is it? The old Coleman generator parts diagrams treat the engine as a single part number and you need to look up engine components by the OEM manufacturer/model.
