I had some spare time to go surfing the web and here is what I found:
Six ESP 1500's up for bid on auction.
All single phase 120/240 volts.
Five were made in 1998 and one in 2001.
All less than 400 hours.
All are powered by the Generac L 1.6 four cylinders.
1800 rpm.
These generators are completely self contained.
Meaning they have their own ATS mounted inside.
With that said, they only need four things to be up and running.
A battery, Natural gas for fuel, utility and load wiring.
I saw a video of each one being exercised.
A couple had a slight hertz movement on the meter.
The size is compact. 53" long X 24 1/4" wide.
Actually that is only 3" longer than my new model Generac.
I found the manual for model 0009951 on the Generac web site.
It was the 2001 year unit.
The model 00754-5 manuals were not avaliable that I could find.
As for cosmetics they all were very good with a few louvers bent on the 2001 model unit.
I can tell you I am tempted to make a bid on one of these units.
I checked, they accept checks and arrange shipping.
I however do not have a need for another generator, but but but:unsure:
So, I am going to share the website, the info is here....
These units would be easy to install: Add a 60 amp breaker to your panel, install a sub panel and move the necessary wires to the sub panel.

buy as scrap prices. think by the pound..
old machine, yea low hours... but they have set outside!!
you will need to go through them before a run up.
this is an over 20 year old unit...
so keep than in mind..
think valve springs replacement. and maybe rust in the crank case and maybe cyls..
a full inspection would be the min...
like bore camera to look at the cyls..
mouse, birds, insects .. yea almost any thing likes to live in these!!
a $500.00 scrap purchase can turn in to $5000.00 easy!!
$1-2k in shipping via freight truck. same if you drive and pick it up on a BIG flat trailer.
lol
yea been there done that!!

You might be right, but one never knows as there is always the chance of a down side to anything.

Verycool, ToolLover.
I'm thinking these sets are likely good to go. Maybe need some maintenance items but I wouldn't be worried about big problems. After all, they're only 20 yrs old, and natural gas fed.
Notice these are rated in kw, not kva. Meaning these were rated with a power factor included, and that usually infers a commercial product.
Maybe throw a bid,see what happens? And if you do please keep us updated.

You never know who is bidding and where it will go.

I think you should go for it! $500 to ship seems fair. And sure would be fun playing with. You know you're neighbors will be jealous. Me too!

I want to speak to Iowagold"s post about problems that are coherrant to old generatorss.
I have a 35 year old Honda.
Up until this year it had no maintenance other than an occasional exercise.
It is the pride of my generators.
The generators I am following were used in the telecommunication industry.
They were exercised and maintained.
So, I have to respect Iowagold's opinion, but the concerns I have are support from Generac for a 20 year old Generator.
After all my first Generac was 10 years old when it failed and the AVR was not avaliable.
Anyway, the doubt seed is planted and now I am dubious to say the least.
Then add to the fact that I have absoutely no need for a third generator which is not mobil and is going to present a problem with my wife.
But then again I would love to put it into the slot where my 16 KW Generac resiides.
I am losing sleep over taking the plunge and bidding on the 15 KW generator.

grin some folks have good dog houses...
just make sure yours has fresh bedding!! lol!!
sorry I had to go there.
well the generator could be put on a trailer..
yea if it is cheap enough it could be an ok project..
I have seen some generators sell for over retail here lately in local auctions!!
as I shake my head!! lol

yea buy it on the cheap if it is calling your name.

I almost bought a couple of diesel light towers...
glad I went and looked close!! they said in the auction site 137 hours on a 2009 machine..
what the failed to say was the hour meters were unplugged!!
I bet the had over 5000 hours on them... they were rattling real bad... did not want to start.. looked 100 years old!.
they had 6 of them in the Omaha area, so I just took over a goose neck trailer just in case...

some of the little Kubota diesel powered light tower units run well.
I converted over 3 of them last summer to led, so they had plenty of power to spare to run the construction site!!
6 kw gen set 4 kw ttl on the oem lights. leds were brighter at 1.6 kw!! so there was 4.4 kw left for the job site on each of them!

yea get eyes on if they are going for real money... scrap price if you are just going to place a bid to hope to win.

Digging in further, I found a listing of the past sale prices of the ESP 15's. It gives a buyer a guideline for bidding.
Here is the site I found....
On the other hand, it appears that Generac stops supporting their units after 20 years as there is no info avaliable on the 1998's that I could find.
I would be hesitant to buy a 1998 model unless I thought a 2001 manual and schematic would work.
Then too, one might buy two and use one for parts if the "Price is Right!"

yea if they are cheap enough...
or price is right for right now.

I get a few gens for free every now and then...
fix them and donate them to some one in need!

the last couple of super low cost gens I donated to some folks who had cancer and they did the home sale
I donated the gens to the cause.
showed up on the sale day with a light to show the gens worked!!
they went for BIG bucks after starting them and lighting a light!!

nice to be able to give back when I can!!
