I have always owned small, electric powered string trimmers. I am looking to upgrade to a gas string trimmer this Summer. Anybody have recommendations of which brands to go with? I hear a lot about Stihl and Echo, but are there any others worth looking in to? Also, 2-cycle vs. 4-cycle? Which do you recommend?

I would take a look at Husqvarna, Cub Cadet, and Honda. They all make quality gas string trimmers in a variety of sizes, so you should be able to find one to fit your needs.

If you're upgrading from an electric trimmer, I would suggest going with a 2-cycle. They are lighter and easier to maintain than 4-cycle trimmers, and should provide plenty of power for you. This article should help explain it better.
