Will it be too much trouble if you can provide a video? From startup, choke operation and engine behavior, close-up of the carb throat (filter removed), throttle linkages, and everything else you deem relevant.

On the flip side, does it sound like the engine is under load? In certain failure modes, a shorted stator would present a heavy load to the engine and cause it to bog down like it's not getting enough (or too much) fuel. Although, it's easy enough to distinguish between the two. That's why posting a video will be a great deal in helping you diagnose what's wrong with it.

just taking everything apart and cleaning the float area seemed to do the trick. Once I put everything back together it started fine and ran for 15 minutes without any issues.
Glad you got it going again. It might have had just a tiny bit of debris on the float needle seat that was causing the carb to flood the gen when running.
