Hi all,

I have an almost brand new chest freezer that stopped cooling right after I washed it out and think I may have damaged something. When I plug it in it runs but does not cool. What should I check to see if I can repair or have to scrap it? Thanks in advance.

  • Take a close look at cooling coils. Did you use anything pointed that would puncture a line?
  • Is feel there is a frost line that should show frost in the compressor area if you still have freon.
  • The Appliance Message-board was a big help to me with my frig at the address below
Good luck

What was the find and results of your freezer matter?

We found a door “slightly” open just in time before food was thawed completely. It took days for the freezer to stabilize with less ext heat (ext walls and compressor) and running. The ext coils had to be in the walls since they were not under or behind the freezer. I feel the thermal protector on the compressor did its job. The compressor was too hot to tough but it runs fine now.
