I was out on Vinalhaven this weekend, and last evening my voltage monitor alarm went off (safe range = 105-135V). The lights didn't seem brighter than normal, but the voltage gauge read 150V. Since we were only running lights and some chargers that are rated for up to 240V, I decided to let it go for a while and see if it settled back down.

After a few minutes, the voltage started cutting out momentarily, then shortly thereafter the power went out completely and the Onan shut down, since it won't run without voltage being generated. It starts just fine and runs smoothly as long as the start button is held down to bypass the voltage sensing, but then shuts down when the button is released.

Looks like voltage regulator time. Flight Systems makes an upgraded aftermarket replacement unit Model 305/2.8 so that will be installed next trip after all the recommended pre-installation checks are performed.

time fly's when you are having fun for sure!

well it was time for an electronics upgrade.

did you see the new units are inverter now?
i just wish they would make larger versions of the inverter for rv...
a 10 to 20 kw inverter would be nice for food trucks..
or some of these monster rv units out there...
