Hi All

I have a McCulloch 4600 saw that was made in the mid-late 1990s, and am finding that parts for it are getting hard to come by. The gears in the oiler are stripped and I've been unable to locate a new Oiler Assembley for this, so was trying to at the minimum get the two new gears. The part numbers concerned are:

301912 - Oil Pump Assembly

or

301913 - Oil Plunger and Gear
322662 - Worm Gear
323435 - Felt Washer.

I have purchased a 301913 on Ebay today, but have been quite unable to find either the complete assembly 301912 or the Worm Gear 322662 and the Felt Washer 323435. The part numbers are from this PDF parts list

http://www.barrettsmallengine.com/pa...list211594.pdf

Does anyone have any thoughts on a dealer somewhere who might have hoarded up these older parts and so might have them available still?

Thanks!

Roger

New to this forum, greetings:

I have a 8kW, 10kW peak portable gas generator. Getting estimates for installation of transfer switches. The typical setup is with a 10 circuit sub panel. Recently, an electrician gave me a recent estimate for something different. He offered to install a single double pole double throw transfer switch that would connect to the whole main panel. He explained that I would have to turn off the main 200a breaker as well as the breakers of the heaviest loads: Central air, electric stove, electric dryer, and I would have the ability to run whatever lights etc I would need without being locked in to a selected 10 as long as I did not exceed the 8kW/ 10kW max of the generator.

I have a main panel with 200 amp service mainly for the central air which is 40 amps.

I have not heard of this type of transfer switch installation. Is it an accepted and code installation of a transfer switch, or is a sub panel mandatory? I want to be safe but this type of installation sounds a bit more versatile than a sub panel.

Any useful input will be very much appreciated

Sorry, I'm unsure about the model number as of right now, I can't find it on the generator. But it's a Sears Craftsman 4000 Watt 8 HP generator that we bought broken for $75. It has a Tecumseh engine. The carburetor's clean, it's getting gas, and ether doesn't help it start.

If I pull it I can feel air come out the side and it sounds kind of like it's trying to start. It also has a spark. The gas is not too old either. Any ideas? I'm totally new to this stuff, but it gives me something to do, so small word please :p.

I did read up on a Craftsman mower where the person was told to take out the spark plug and stick a rod or something down there to see if piston or whatever moved or tried to move if I pulled on the cord. I didn't feel anything, but that's a mower, I don't know if it's any different on a generator.

Hi guys,

I've just joined the forum and just got my first air compressor today. 25 gal 4HP 9CFM @ 40psi. I'm looking into painting and stuff like that and when I got the air compressor today I notice it was leaking so I listened to it, it came from the drain valve so I looked online and saw some people did drain valve conversion to the NPT ball valve so I decided to take off the original drain valve and let it drain the air out. After the air was all drained out I want to take off the NPT bolt that was on with the drain valve? (Sorry if I don't know what they are called) I try to use a 14mm socket to take it off but it just flatten out the bolt and I tried dremel it with two lines so I can put two flat heads in it to twist it out but it did not work instead it cut bolt off and its not removable other than trying to use screw extractors. So the problem came when I was trying to get the bolt out, I saw the valve broke off and some tips were still on it so I try to use a pliers to take it out but instead it pushed it into the tank and I know the valve tip was rusted, so can it be a problem to leave it inside the tank?

Sorry for such a long story and thanks in advance!

These were the pics my friend sent me when he asked if I wanted it. He said it doesn't run and didn't know why...

Now that I have it at home, I realized I was missing parts...
Missing a few parts from the governor plate. I watched a couple Youtube videos, but doggone it those guys can't hold a camera steady long enough to see everything I'm missing... I did download the manals availabe for the 8HP Briggs engine, but haven't reall had time to pore over them.

If someone has a similar Briggs powered generator, I'd love a couple pictures of the governor assembly.

And yes, I intend to do a full clenaing of this new toy...

New guy, lots of small engine projects. Almost all have been freebies...

I was recently given a 4500 watt generator that is missing stuff, I'll post over in the generator section. I have a snoththrower project that revolves around a Chinese dirtbike engine and transmission. I also have a 1963 Bonham ToteGote that I hope to finally get rolling this summer. I also have an old washing machine engine that I was going to make into a small generator, but not sure what to do with it now that i have the big generator...

I'm a Jeep guy, retired Navy (12 years ago, sheesh!!!), and oddball idea generator...

Thanks to the admins for letting me in!
The weedeater will crank and work just fine but once it runs for several minutes and is turned off it cannot be cranked again unless it sits for about roughly 30 minutes. Afterwards the weedeater will crank and work again flawlessly until it is turned off or runs out of gas. On a side note when I try to crank it after it is turned off the crank string/cable seems to be slippery as if it is not getting enough traction. Any idea what could be causing this?

Over the weekend I undertook a successful conversion of my EU6500i to tri fuel. Other than reconnecting those impossible to reach retention clips on the air box (I still can't reach the back lower), the conversion was quite easy.

I have a question regarding the adjustment of the load block. When running on gasoline, without a load, the generator idles at around 3300 and 2400 in eco mode. Without a load, I find that the idle is no at all sensitive to the load block adjustment, Starting at about 6 turns out from fully closed, I can turn it several revolutions in either direction with absolutely no effect on the RPM. Is this normal?

My other question is how do I properly set the load block for a full load. Do I simply simulate a full load on the generator and target an RPM of 3400 for the load block adjustment?

What is confusing is that I undertook the conversion in the past on a conventional generator and the target RPM was of course 3600. Is the RPM less relevant because of the inverter technology on this machine?

I probably should have added that this is the USCARB Snorkel conversion kit.

Thanks in advance for comments.

We bought a DuroMax XP8500E a couple years ago since our house is all electric. This winter I had it out since we lost power. It seemed to work OK (did run at full throttle), however, the lights in the fridge were not as bright as usual, normal? Then I tried to power up an oil filled heater and it would not heat up. A few weeks later I got it back out to see if I could figure out what was going on, still couldn't.

For some reason the generator only idles and the engine never runs at full throttle. The volt meter on the generator shows the output less than 110V, I think it is above 90 if it makes any difference. I can put a fairly heavy load on it and it continues to idle (2 oil filled heaters, both on high, approx 3200W) . The generator has been used less than 20 hrs. I guess I'm trying to figure out were to start troubleshooting... Any help is much appreciated

I'll start I have two chainsaws one 20" craftsman (poulan made),and a 16" poulan, I have a homelite leaf blower, a Campbell hausfeld air compressor, and my new champion generator. I am in the market for a new trimmer and a new pressure washer.

My old trimmer had the clutch go out and it wasn't worth fixing since I'd had it for 10 years and it was a factory refurb unit, the pressure washer was also a refurb unit and the pump went out so I sold the perfectly running engine because a new pump was 300 dollars and I hadn't paid that much for the whole unit.
