Log splitter hydraulic question

Brand new here, first question. I have a Northern log splitter. I think 22-24 ton, has Honda GX160 motor. Here's the problem: there is a 4" 3/4" pipe nipple that I have replaced since the previous one broke from fatigue near the threads into the cylinder. Pipe nipple threads into the cylinder and also threads into the bottom of the hydraulic control. When you buy a new splitter at the store, the control panel is running parallel to the machine frame.........well, when I tighten all down (into cylinder and into bottom of control), it comes tight not parallel. Think 8:30 position when it should be 6:00. Leaks like crazy unless I tighten it all the way snug. Any advise as to how to get it to come tight in the correct parallel position? Thank you.
